Superelastic Conical Friction Pendulum Isolator for Seismic Isolation of Bridges under Near-Fault Ground Motions

To improve the seismic performance of bridges, this study develops a novel superelastic conical friction pendulum isolator (SCFPI) by incorporating an improved (CFPI) with shape memory alloy (SMA). The flat sliding function designed for is to enhance adaptability under service loadings. analytical model SCFPI derived and numerical developed within OpenSees platform investigate hysteretic behavior cyclic A cost-effective design method proposed system example bridges. response mitigation efficacy investigated using optimum parameters near-fault ground motions. Several case studies are conducted demonstrate effectiveness method. Results indicate that particularly effective parameter optimization SCFPI, which achieves displacement responses superstructure also effectively controls force increment in piers. Case reliable re-centering capacity bridges findings contribute upgrading structural resilience promoting applications as technical guidance.
